As you may have heard, there has been talks of the NDIA (National Disability Insurance Agency) removing Music Therapy from the ‘Capacity Building – Improved Daily Living’ category in the NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme). The AMTA (Australian Music Therapy Association) responded quickly to updates and communication from the NDIA, urging them not to go ahead with this decision. As a result, the NDIA has agreed to postpone legislative changes until an external review of Music Therapy has been completed by Dr. Stephen Duckett.
The AMTA, registered music therapists, participants, families and carers have already come together as a community to challenge the implementation of these detrimental NDIS changes. The AMTA is now calling on participants and families who have accessed services from Registered Music Therapists to submit their own personal stories, experiences and perspectives as part of the independent review. Submissions close this Friday, 7 February.
Now is the time to raise your voice and Beat the Drum for Music Therapy!
